About me

Hi - and welcome. I am a mom, wife, speech pathologist, writer, teacher and podcaster. In my free time I love to read, knit and crochet, cook, and travel. Over thirty years ago my life changed dramatically when our daughter was diagnosed with Rett syndrome. Since that time, I’ve worked to help families, especially mothers, navigate this world. I’ve made lots of mistakes, learned lessons, and met the most amazing, giving people who have taught me so many lessons. Today I host a podcast, Safe Harbor: A Podcast for Parents of Children with Special Needs, I am writing a book about my experiences, and I work with moms through workshops and individual coaching to move past the loss and make new dreams that are full of possibilities.

My mission is to share with the world the beauty in all of us, especially our children.

My daughter does not know jealousy, greed, or try to manipulate or dominate others. She is pure love and pure joy and I see what is really real in her eyes. Love is the foundation of everything.

“Motherhood is about raising and celebrating the child you have, not the child you thought you would have.  It’s about understanding that he is exactly the person he is supposed to be and that, if you’re lucky, he just might be the teacher who turns you into the person you are supposed to be. – Joan Ryan”
